Major Gas Leak In FDL

Fond du Lac Firefighters had to expand an evacuation zone for a natural gas leak that began in the area of 358 E. 9th Street shortly before noon Thursday. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says about 40 residents had to be evacuated. He told us at the time that they expanded the evacuation zone by a couple of blocks. Alliant Energy crews worked to shut off the gas in a couple of areas. The Alliant crews worked to locate valves and other portions of the gas line so they could clamp off the leak. The gas leak happened when a construction company backhoe hit a 6 inch gas line. 

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue are dealing with a natural gas leak at 9th and Lloyd. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says they got the call shortly before noon. He says they got gas readings up to a block away from the leak so they evacuated houses as a precaution. He says they evacuated homes at least a block away in each direction. He says a backhoe hit a 6 inch main causing the leak. Alliant Energy showed up at the scene to fix the leak. More than 20 residents were evacuated. Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue photos.
