Man And Dog Rescued From Icy Pond Near Watertown

A Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy’s efforts Sunday night helped save the life of a 56-year-old Town of Shields man who went through an ice on a pond trying to save the family’s black Lab. It happened on a pond in the man’s backyard about 5 miles outside of Watertown. The deputy threw the man a throw bag used in icy water rescues and the man and his dog were pulled to shore. EMS treated him at the scene for hypothermia and took him to the Watertown Hospital. He had been in the water for about 17 minutes. The dog was fine. A 911 call shortly after 6 p.m. alerted the County Communications Center about the incident. Pictured a throw bag similar to the one used in this rescue.
