Marian University Chamber Singers Spring Concert

The Marian University Chamber Singers will perform their Spring Concert on Sunday, April 22nd at 2 pm in Dorcas Chapel on the university campus. Dorcas Chapel is located at the corner of National Avenue and Division Street. The chorus is under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music David Hein. The concert is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Coinciding with Earth Day, the choir’s program will lift up, through song, the theme of caring for the earth, as well as acknowledging the vast and beautiful variety of life around the globe. The program will begin with Norwegian composer, Waldemar Åhlén’s beautiful hymn to creation “The Earth Adorned: Psalm of Summer.” A feature of the concert will be J. David Moore’s setting of Jack Mano’s poem “Earth Blessing,” which was written as a project of the Syracuse Cultural Workers, a New York-based publisher “committed to peace, sustainability, social justice, feminism and multiculturalism.” The choir will also sing a gospel-inspired composition by Brian Tate, “Gently, Walk on the Earth.” Special guest performers on the program will be the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade singers of the Fond du Lac Children’s Chorale, who will present a song cycle by composer Carolyn Jennings, “A Menagerie of Songs,” in which each song describes a different animal from around the globe. Related, The Chamber Singers will perform Josquin des Prez’s charming frottola  “El Grillo” (The Cricket). The Marian Vocal Jazz Ensemble will also perform two selections.
