The Town of Calument Fire Department and 14 area departments responded to a marsh fire on County Highway HHH west of Schoenborn Road on Saturday afternoon at 2:25pm. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department says that dry conditions and high winds allowed the fire to spread quickly. The investigation stated that the fire may have started when dry cattails were packed up into and around the engine and exhaust components of an ATV being operated by a hunter going through the cattails. No one was injured and property damage was limited to approximately 80 acres of cattail marsh.
