Marsh Fire West of Fond du Lac

(Update 3:15 p.m.)-More than 600 acres of marsh and grass burned in the area of Amity Road between State Highway 49 and Fond du Lac County Highway M Friday. Brandon-Fairwater Fire Captain Adam Brown says the same area burned about 16 years ago. Arelene Vand Berg works as a cashier at Helen’s Kitchen in Waupun. She was working when she got a call from the Waupun police chief telling her that her home was in the fire area. It burned up to edge of her lawn, but her home wasn’t damaged. She also remembers the 1998 fire. Fire departments from Ripon, Alto, Rosendale and Waupun also responded to the scene. Even members of the National Guard directed traffic at the scene. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, but there was a controlled burn in the area.

Multiple area fire departments are battling a marsh fire just north of Waupun and southeast of Brandon today.  The fire was first reported around 10:30am.  Adam Brown of the Brandon-Fairwater Fire Department tells KFIZ News that about 200 acres burned in the area around Amity Road near Highway 49 and M. As of 2pm Brown says about 95% of the fire had been put out.  He added that the same area burned in October of 1998. Residents of Fond du Lac have called KFIZ and said they have witnessed ash falling in the city.
