Meeting Minute Publishing Requirement Could Be Done Away With

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says she agrees with State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt that not many people read the meeting minutes published in newspapers anymore. Thiesfeldt is the author of a bill that would do away with a requirement that has municipalities, school districts, counties, and technical colleges publish their minutes in newspapers. They would instead be able to fulfill that requirement by posting them on their websites. Freiberg says she still reads minutes both online and in the newspaper. In fact Fond du Lac City Council, Fond du Lac School Board, and Fond du Lac County Board meetings can be viewed online the day after. The County also streams their meetings live on the internet. Thiesfeldt’s bill would not affect the printing of agendas and meeting notices in newspapers.
