Mercury Marine Groundbreaking

A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony was held at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac Thursday morning on $20 million in expansion projects. The company is adding a 20,000 square foot addition to the Plant 15 machining center and 18,000 square feet to the Plant 17 casting facility. Mercury President Mark Schwabero says they made the right decision to consolidate their operations in the Fond du Lac in 2009. City Council President Sam Meyer says people were nervous when the city, county and state put together incentives to keep Mercury from leaving for Stillwater, Oklahoma. He says it’s a gamble that paid off. The company has invested $40 million in expansion over the past year with a similar groundbreaking last September. Fond du Lac County Executive Al Buechel says he doesn’t mind attending these types of groundbreakings. The expansions will add 38,000 square feet to Mercury’s 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing space in Fond du Lac.
