Michigan Company Announces Recall of Fresh Apples due to Possible Listeria Contamination

A Michigan-based produce company is recalling nearly 2,300
cases of apples because of possible listeria contamination. North Bay Produce
announced the recall of several varieties of apples that were distributed in
eight states, including Wisconsin, because they are potentially contaminated
with the bacteria. The recall was initiated after a product test revealed that
finished products contained the bacteria. The company says they are “not aware”
of any illnesses that are linked to the recall.

Recalled varieties of apples include McIntosh, Honeycrisp,
Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious apples. The apples were sold in plastic
bags under the brands “Great Lakes” and “North Bay Produce Pure Michigan” – as well
as unbranded in clear plastic and white paper tote bags, and individually from
different retailers. The apples were shipped between October 16^th
and the 21^st to wholesalers and retailers. Anyone who has one of the
recalled products should not eat it and should throw it out or return it to the
place of purchase.
