Milwaukee County District Attorney Wants Statewide Investigation into Priest Abuse

(Wisconsin Radio Network)

The district attorney in Milwaukee County wants a
statewide investigation of the Catholic Church’s response to allegations of
sexual abuse of children. In an interview, D-A John Chisholm said he’d like to
work with district attorneys around the state and newly elected Attorney
General Josh Kaul to review all abuse allegations over the last 50 years.
Chisholm said he would hope Wisconsin’s bishops would voluntarily open their
files, but he’d be open to other mechanisms, such as a John Doe or a grand
jury. Chisholm also said he’d consider asking the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to
share names of more than 100 alleged offenders. Those are under seal as part of
the now-closed bankruptcy of the Milwaukee Archdiocese.
