Milwaukee Father Charged in Fatal Winnebago County Crash

A Milwaukee man is being charged with homicide in a drunk driving crash that killed his young daughter in Winnebago County. 58-year old Steven Brownell is charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle, Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle with a Prohibited Alcohol Concentration, and First Degree Reckless Homicide.

Rescue crews responded to reports of a crash along Highway 45 back on August 10th – where a vehicle went airborne and crashed in a cornfield. 10-year old Kherington Brownell died at the scene, while her father and 13-year old brother survived. Witnesses recall seeing Brownell driving fast and recklessly in his Mustang before watching him hit gravel and lose control.

Brownell tested for a .261 blood alcohol content, which is more than triple the legal limit. He is set to appear in court next week.
