More Prosecutors Needed

The Fond du Lac County Board tonight will be asked to support the District Attorney’s request for additional prosecutors. District Attorney Eric Toney says they currently have eight assistant district attorneys, five of which are paid for by the state and the other three by grants and the County. Toney says the County’s Public Safety Committee supports asking for four more prosecutors. He says they will be asking the state to fund the additional four plus the eight they already have. He says he’s not optimistic the state will grant the request or similar ones issued by other counties, but he says at least legislators have been open to talking about it. He says Senator Rick Gudex has been particularly helpful. Toney says a study a few years ago determined the County should have 11.5 prosecutors.
