Sunday Crash on Highway 23 Sends Multiple People to Hospital

23-Oct-2017

Update:

Ten people including two children were taken to hospitals following a four vehicle collision on Highway 23 at Whispering Springs Boulevard in Fond du Lac Sunday afternoon. The two children ended up at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with serious injuries. The accident started after a westbound SUV slowed to turn left into a driveway. A pickup truck trying to go around it was struck from behind by a semi pushing the pickup into the SUV, which then was pushed into oncoming traffic causing a near head-on collision with an eastbound mini-van. Fond du Lac Assistant Police Chief Steve Thiry says 12 people were in the four vehicles, but nine of the injuries happened in the head-on crash between the mini-van and SUV. Five people were in the mini-van and four were in the SUV. The investigation will determine which driver was at fault. The semi couldn’t slow down and stop in time when the pick-up truck pulled out to go around the SUV, which was ultimately the cause of the accident. Thiry says it does not appear that alcohol and drugs were factors in the accident.

Nine people were injured in a 4 vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on Highway 23 or East Johnson Street at Whispering Springs Boulevard in the City of Fond du Lac. The crash involved an SUV, pickup truck, semi and mini-van. Eight of the injured were taken to St. Agnes Hospital. One person with life-threatening injuries was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. One person taken to St. Agnes was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. The accident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Multiple people were taken to the hospital as a result of a four-vehicle accident on Highway 23/East Johnson Street at Whispering Springs Drive Sunday evening. The Fond du Lac Police department says an SUV driving west on Johnson Street had slowed to make a left turn into a driveway. A pickup truck was slowing to go around the SUV, when it was rear-ended by a westbound semi. That caused the pickup to hit the SUV and push it into oncoming traffic, where it hit an eastbound mini van. Officials with Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue say nine people were transported from the scene by ambulance. One of them had life threatening injuries and was taken to ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah. Traffic on Johnson Street was rerouted for over one and a half hours because of the crash, which happened just before 4:30 pm.  Assisting at the scene were the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue, North Fond du Lac Ambulance and Eden Fire Department and First Responders.
