National Suicide Prevention Week Next Week

Suicide Prevention Week will be observed across the nation next week. The Fond du Lac School Board passed a proclamation during its last meeting recognizing that week. The proclamation was put together by Marian Sheridan, the district’s Coordinator of School Health and Safety Programs. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says district personnel really were pioneers in screening kids for suicidal risk and mental health issues with the Teen Screen and now the YScreen programs. The program gives students an outlet for talking about such difficult subjects. According to Comprehensive Service Integration of Fond du Lac County there were 17 suicides in the County last year. It is estimated that for every suicide there are between 20 and 25 attempts. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 1-800-273-8255.
