New Council Member Pushes for Changes, Transparency

A new member of the Fond du Lac city council is already bringing suggestions to change how the council operates. Donna Richards is hoping to make the city government more open and transparent – but her proposal to give residents more opportunities to discuss issues facing the city was rejected at Wednesday night’s council meeting.

She is aiming to bring more information to the public about every topic going through the council with more informative open sessions – along with more detailed information about what is being discussed in a closed session.

Other council members – Catherine Block and president Karyn Merkel – argue the system runs fine, and has done so for years.  Block adds that people already talk to the council and voice their opinions on topics that impact them directly.
