New Information On Hit And Run In Front Of Schmittys

Diligence and tips from the public are helping the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department narrow down the vehicle and person who struck an Oakfield woman as she was crossing the road in front of Schmitty’s Oar House late last month. Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says Deputies Andy Jagdfeld and Andrea Prahl located a vehicle with the same shape and pieces of passenger side headlamp that were left behind at the scene. Jagdfeld took them into a dealership and was able to determine they came from at 2009 to 2017 Ram half-ton pickup. He says witnesses who were trying to turn onto Giese Drive next to the Schmitty’s parking lot encountered a pickup truck driver who was taking up more than his share of the road, just about the time of the accident. As a result Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a metallic-colored pickup truck with a topper that was driven by a man approximately 30-years-old who was wearing a camouflage baseball cap, basically the same type and color of vehicle described by witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (920) 929-3390 or the tip line at 906-4777.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials now have more information about the hit and run accident in front of Schmitty’s Oar House on April 29th that left a 36-year-old Oakfield woman injured. Based on analysis from small pieces of broken passenger side headlamp lens, deputies believe the vehicle that struck the woman was a 2009 to 2017 Ram half-ton pickup truck. Additional witnesses that came forward told investigators they saw a metallic colored pickup truck with a topper driven by an approximately 30-year-old man wearing a camouflage baseball cap leaving the parking lot of Schmitty’s just prior to the time of the crash.  It is not known if this was the same vehicle that struck the woman, but the man is considered a person of interest.
