No Injuries after Airplane Lands in Soybean Field in Town of Metomen

No one was injured when an airplane bound for EAA landed
in a field in the Town of Metomen Sunday afternoon. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s
Deputies responded to the scene near the area of County Highway KK and State
Highways 44 and 49 around 2:42 pm. A news release says the 1945 Piper J3C-65
was flying from Lake Crystal, Minnesota to the EAA Seaplane Base near Oshkosh
when the pilot reported instant loss of power and was able to land the plane in
a soybean field. Investigation found an incorrectly installed gas cap resulted
in the loss of power. Meyers Aviation of Oshkosh removed the plane from the
field and transported it to Big Green Lake where the 74-year-old man from the
United Kingdom who was piloting the plane was able to resume his flight to
Oshkosh. No damage to the airplane was reported.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the
Town of Ripon Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration.
