NWS Releases Summary of This Week’s Bitter Cold Temps

The bitter cold air is moving out of the region, and it was
a record-setting cold for many locations across Wisconsin. Both Madison and
Milwaukee set record low-maximum temperatures on Wednesday and then set record
lows Thursday morning. In Fond du Lac, a temperature of -28 was recorded at the
airport just after 7 am Thursday morning. Also on Thursday, the Dodge County
Airport in Juneau recorded a temperature of -32 around 8:15 am, with the Sheboygan
Airport reaching 23-below zero just before 6 am. In Washington County, West
Bend hit 24-below around 7:30 Thursday morning – with Slinger recording a frigid
air temperature of -31 around 7 am.


Wind Chills Wednesday morning were also brutally cold. The
Fond du Lac airport recorded a wind chill reading of 50-below zero just before
8 am Wednesday, with the Dodge County Airport hitting a “feels like”
temperature of -51 around 9 am Wednesday. The Sheboygan Airport recorded a wind
chill of -54 around 8:15 Wednesday, but that wasn’t the coldest according to
the National Weather Service Milwaukee Office. The Waukesha Airport recorded a Wind
Chill of -55 around 7:45 am Wednesday.
