Oshkosh Defense to Add Self-Driving Technology

Oshkosh Defense will add self-driving technology to a set of vehicles under a $49 million dollar contract with the US Army. The vehicles would allow soldiers to operate them in highly contested areas – without being in the way of danger themselves. The contract will see seventy palletized load system vehicles converted – with an option for a total of 150 total vehicles. The company says the autonomous use will significantly reduce the exposure of soldiers to enemy threats. The systems can be run in several modes, ranging from full auto to remote operation. Soldiers can be trained to operate the vehicles in just a few days.
