Pioneer Road Dedicated

12-Nov-2013
They couldn't all be thanked by name, but a nod was made to all of those who had a hand in the Pioneer Road project during a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting at the Hickory Street and Pioneer Road roundabout this afternoon in Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke served as master of ceremonies giving a history of the project dating from its start with the 1998 Corridor Study up to its construction and completion over the last three years. A monument at the roundabout was also dedicated in memory of Fond du Lac County highway worker Dennis Roeseler who was killed while working on Highway 41 10 years ago and to all the highway workers in the state who were killed while doing their jobs. Roeseler's son Shawn thanked the gathering for the monument and remembering his father. A number of officials made remarks including representatives from Congressman Tom Petri's office and the state's Department of Transportation. Fond du Lac Public Works Director Jordan Skiff and County Board Chairman Marty Farrell talked about the City and County's role in the project and County Executive Al Buechel had the final say. He noted that since his time as County Executive the state DOT has spent $300 million on highway projects in the County. He also thanked the business owners along Pioneer Road who have had to endure during the long project. A red ribbon was used as Janke and Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore shared an over-sized pair of scissors to cut it. The road officially reopens on Wednesday. To hear the ceremony click here
