Poet Laureate of Your Face Nick Demske will read at THELMA

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced blogger and humorist Nick Demske will read at the next Foot of the Lake Reading Series event November 3.

This free event begins with a reading by Demske at 7 pm in THELMA’s Café 1906. The doors open at 6:30 pm and a cash bar will be available.

Demske’s self-titled manuscript, published by Fence Books, was selected for the 2010 Fence Modern Poets Series Award. He has a chapbook, Skeetly Deetly Deet, published by Strange Cage Press and another chapbook Spork Chaps.

Demske was featured in 2011 as one of 15 emerging poets to watch for by Poets and Writers magazine and his book was chosen as one of the 10 Best Books of Poetry in 2010 by a Believer Magazine reader survey. In the fall of 2011, he completed a month-and-a-half-long book tour that traveled over 10,000 miles across the whole of America. Nick curates the BONK! performance series in Racine.

He works at the Racine Public Library and blogs for The Bonkness Monster.

The 2015-2016 season includes: Favorite Poem Readingsa traditionally fun event featuring community members – will be held December 1; Alison Townsend – first poet to receive the UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Regional Literary AwardFebruary 2; Dasha Kellyfounder of Still Waters Collective, a Milwaukee-based outreach for writers – March 1, and the ever popular Student Invitational April 5. The guest on May 3 will be announced soon.
