Polk County DA Facing Drunken Driving Charge In FDL County

The Polk County District Attorney is facing OWI and speeding charges after a traffic stop in Fond du Lac County Monday night. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says a deputy stopped Daniel Steffen on Highway 23 near Hickory Road, which is closer to the Sheboygan County line. Steffen was stopped for going 70 mile per hour and was arrested for being under the influence. Steffen was cooperative with the deputy. He took a breath test and allegedly blew a .11 blood alcohol content. Olig says Steffen was driving a Polk County vehicle at the time. Steffen is scheduled to appear in court on December 7th for driving 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone and OWI 1st offense. Since it was his first OWI offense he was released to a responsible party. He was on his way to a conference in Elkhart Lake. His passengers were two victim witness coordinators.
