Portion of Johnson Street to Close for Crosswalk Repair Starting Monday

A section of Johnson Street is set to close next week as public works crews will be working on crosswalks. Crews will be removing the brick pavers in the crosswalks on Johnson Street west of Main Street and replacing them with new colored, stamped concrete.

The project is split into two stages, with the first set to begin Monday (May 20th). The first stage will close Johnson Street between Hickory Street and Main Street, including the Johnson Street Bridge, to through traffic until the end of the day Friday, May 24th. Traffic at the cross street intersections will be maintained – and access to businesses will also be maintained through adjacent streets. Weather permitting, Johnson Street will reopen to regular traffic for the Memorial Day weekend.

The second stage of the project covers the Hickory Street to Peters Avenue portion of Johnson Street, and will begin Tuesday, May 28th. During stage two, two-way traffic will be set up in the westbound lanes – and once the crosswalks are complete, the two-way setup will switch to the eastbound lanes.

A signed detour will be in place for the closure – which will use Highway 23 to Highway 41 to Highway 151, back to Highway 23.
