Probable Cause Hearing For Gerald Turner Moved To April

06-Feb-2018

The date for a probable cause hearing for 67-year-old Gerald Turner has been moved to April 6th.  The state Attorney General’s Office is trying to get him committed under the state’s violent sex offender law. Turner was supposed to have been released last Thursday. Originally the probable cause hearing was scheduled for this Friday in Fond du Lac County Court. The Brown County District Attorney’s Office handles Chapter 980 petitions for the region, but Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says he and Deputy District Attorney Dennis Krueger found out there are thousands of pages of records in the case. For that reason they felt it would be easier to ask the state Attorney General’s office. Toney says, “The Attorney General’s Office, Brad Schimel our Attorney General, they all have been outstanding in reviewing this, working on it and putting a lot of effort into this.” The lead Assistant Attorney General handling the case has ties to Fond du Lac County. Toney says, “Some of the listeners may remember Devra Ayala she was an Assistant DA in the Fond du Lac Office who is now at the Attorney General’s Office and she is one of the lead prosecutors from their office that is handling this.” Turner was convicted of sexually assaulting and killing 9-year-old Lisa Marie French in Fond du Lac on Halloween in 1973.
