Police and fire departments from around the area along
with local residents lined the overpasses along Interstate 41 this morning as a
processional bringing the body of a fallen Appleton firefighter made its way
back to the Fox Valley from Milwaukee. The 14-year veteran of the fire
department died at a hospital Wednesday night after being shot while on the
scene of a medical emergency in the city around 5:30 pm Wednesday. Three others
were shot, including an Appleton Police officer. The procession made its way
through the Fond du Lac area close to mid-day today, as it went from the
Milwaukee Medical Examiner’s Office to the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel
Funeral Chapel in Appleton.
