Program Wednesday Updates On Heroin Problem In FDL Area

Fond du Lac area residents are invited to get an update on the heroin problem during a presentation at the High School’s Performing Arts Center Wednesday. Police Chief Bill Lamb says during high intensity drug enforcement efforts they’ve averaged about 100 different felony drug cases a year and have taken over 300 different individuals into custody over the past few years. But he says community awareness is the key in making a difference. The Fond du Lac Elks Lodge is paying for the “Rise Together” presentation that will be part of tomorrow night’s program. Ginger Reath of the Elks says they already provide funding for youth at-risk programs. She says it’s a community problem that only the community can do something about. Mary Gerlach of the Beacon House says two recovering addicts, Douglas Darby and Anthony Alvarado, are part of the “Rise” program. They will do presentations for students Wednesday morning and then the program in the evening. The event is free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation starts at 6:30.
