Protecting Yourself From Unwanted Calls

An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection recommends taking precautions to protect yourself from unwanted and scam phone calls. Michelie Reinen is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She says you can go line to sign up for protection or even get apps for your phone. She says, “If you have Voice Over Internet, VOIP, there is a tool nomorobo you can use to minimize the calls. There are a number of apps out there to put on your phone to look at the black lists of phone numbers and block those calls.” She says if you take the call and someone asks you to wire money to someone you don’t know or pay by gift card that is another huge indicator that something is off with the call because that is not the way people do business.
