Qutting Smoking May Take Several Efforts

The program coordinator for the 5 Counties for Tobacco Free Living says if one of your New Year’s resolutions was quitting smoking you should have a plan and be persistent. Sandy Bernier speaks from experience. She gave up smoking over 30 years ago. She says it’s a good time to quit because it may take you several efforts. She recommends that those trying to support the person that is quitting shouldn’t nag, scold or preach. Instead ask that person what you can do to support their effort. She also suggests checking with your health care provider to find out if there is medication that might help you quit. Also remove any smoking triggers from your home and car. There’s also the option of calling the Wisconsin Quit Line at 1-800-784-8669. Bernier says they offer a lot of support at the Fond du Lac County Tobacco Control and Tobacco Free Living websites as well.
