Retlaw Theater Developer Would Like To Have Building Ready For Use In Early 2015

The developer who will turn the old Retlaw Theater back into a reusable property says they would have loved to completely restore the old theater, but will be preserving the look of the original theater. Louie Lange of Commonwealth Development says it’s necessary to take down the old theaters portion of the building, but they have found a use for the historic property. They will be locating their corporate headquarters to the first floor, rent out market rate apartments on the second floor, and lease the third floor to a dance studio if the studio has interest in that. He says people have an idea that they rent to low income wage earners because they use low income housing tax credits, but that’s simply the term the government uses for the program. He says in fact anyone making 60 percent or less of the County medium income would be eligible to rent one of their units. He says much of the outside of the building will look like the original theater built in the 1920’s. Lange says they hope to have the work done in 6 to 8 months so they can open up the building for use during the mid-to-late half of the first quarter of next year.
