Ribbon Cutting Held For Completion Of FDL County Broadband Expansion Project

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in the Town of Eldorado Thursday morning marking the completion of a major broadband expansion project in rural Fond du Lac County. County Executive Al Buechel says it’s important for economic development and quality of life, but residents should have that internet availability. He says they recognized the need to make improvements about 10 years ago and actually started talking about it in 2007, but then the economy crashed. He says finally his Director of Administration Erin Gerred gave Steve Schneider of Bug Tussel Wireless a call, which got the process rolling. Eventually federal bonding for $5.8 million helped finance the expansion effort in rural areas of Adams and Fond du Lac Counties. Schneider says he turned down Gerred on her first call, but came to realize his bigger competitors wouldn’t be taking a chance on rural areas. The ribbon cutting with the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce ambassadors was held at a tower site behind the Eldorado Town Hall.
