Richfield Man Who Attacked Teen Found Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity

The 47-year-old Richfield man who attacked and seriously injured his 13-year-old neighbor with a hammer will be committed to a mental health facility. A decision about Brian Scott Olson’s sanity was reached in Washington County Court this week based on a psychiatrist’s examination. Both the defense and prosecution agreed he is not guilty because of mental disease or defect. Olson is due back in Washington County Court on January 11th. Olson was placed in the Winnebago Mental Health Institute after his arrest. He has a history of mental health issues. The attack occurred in August.
