Rick Olig Retiring From Sheriffs Department

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig will retire next week after 35 ½ years with the Sheriff’s Department. He says in 1981 he was an EMT for Mt. Calvary and was working for his Dad’s catering business. He says a Sheriff’s deputy asked him if he would be interested in applying for dispatcher’s job and that kicked off his law enforcement career. He says that led to a job in the jail. He worked his way up through the ranks and Sheriff Mick Fink promoted him to Captain of Operations in 2012. He says there have been a lot of changes in technology and the specialty teams they have in the department. He says there were some memorable events as well like the Oakfield Tornado and a tragic crash involving multiple motorcycles on Highway 151. He says both incidents showed how people can rally together for the benefit of others. He will take the traditional ramp walk Thursday, August 11th at 3:30 in the afternoon. Olig says he already has a consultant’s job lined up after his retirement for the Sheriff’s Department.
