Riverside, Sabish Among Schools Named “Title One Schools of Recognition”

Two schools within the Fond du Lac School
District were named “Title One Schools of Recognition” by the Wisconsin
Department of Public Instruction this month. Riverside Elementary School and
Sabish Middle School both earned awards in the “Beating the Odds” category as
part of the awards, which honor and recognize the success in the education of
students who come from economically disadvantaged families. “What they
recognize in the ‘Beating the Odds’ category is schools that have high or higher
levels of poverty but achieve higher than other schools that are comparable,” Superintendent
Jim Sebert said. Sebert adds that the district is “very fortunate” to have both
Riverside and Sabish be recognized, with this being the second year in a row
Sabish was recognized, with Riverside previously earning the honor in 2004. Other
area schools being honored this year include Oakfield Elementary School – who was
recognized for receiving the awards for five consecutive years – and the Waupun
School District’s School for Agriculture and Environmental Studies, which was
given the high progress award. 114 total schools around the state were named
Schools of Recognition this year.
