Rolling Meadows Golf Course Discussion

More than 60 people attended a meeting of a Fond du Lac County Board committee  last night, the majority in favor of keeping the Rolling Meadows Golf Course running but reducing its deficit. Golf Course Manager Dave Brandenburg told the committee weather had a major role in a $255,000 deficit last year, but this year so far the course is $50,000 in the black. County Board Chairman Marty Farrell says ideas are needed to turn that red ink over the last seven years to black. He believes some good ideas will come from the discussion. County Supervisor Tom Schumacher reiterated Thursday night what he said about the course during a County Board meeting last month that if the course can’t start making a profit the County has to start looking down the road at getting out of the golf business. But County Executive Al Buechel says the County Board is willing to take a wait and see approach this season. He says they are ready to take a look at all options and if things don’t work out this season do a study in the fall. Buechel says there has been no real serious consideration of closing or selling the golf course or parceling off a portion for a County highway garage.
