Rolling Out The Warmth

For the second straight year Fond du Lac firefighters and paramedics will be passing out sleeping bags, dental and personal hygiene kits to the homeless thanks to a program known as “Roll Out the Warmth.” The program was initiated last December thanks to donations from Target, the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation, and the Fond du Lac County Health Department. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says they had a surplus after last winter and enough to continue the program this season. He feels the program is good and they did see calls for people with exposure problems reduced last winter. He says they do encounter the homeless on the streets and offer the sleeping bags and personal hygiene kits and often they are gladly accepted. The firefighters and paramedics also feel good about being able to help the homeless in that way. By the way the Salvation Army’s warming shelter for the homeless opened on November 1st.
