Safe Kids Zones Active Again

School is back in session, which means Safe Kids Zones will be active in the Fond du Lac School District again. Marian Sheridan is the District’s Health and Safety Coordinator. She says they began the Safe Kids Zones initiative in 2006. She says it is about getting drivers to be alert and slow down near schools. She says they want kids to walk and bicycle to school, but they also want them to be safe. She says they would also like parents to follow the rules at schools for dropping off and picking up their kids. School zones are marked with signs and traffic cones. Drivers are supposed to slow to 15 miles an hour when children are present and allow them to safely cross in the zone. Sheridan says there are a number of partners in the initiative because it takes a community to keep kids safe.
