Schimel: School Districts Should Decide Whether to Arm Teachers

Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel says school districts should be able to decide whether or not to arm teachers – and says he would help them make sure it’s “done the best way possible.” Previous legislation has banned the use of federal money to arm teachers – but recent grants do not outlaw weapons purchases.

Schimel says arming teachers could “make a difference,” but the “best bet” is having resource officers in schools. But he adds that he would help schools with implementing weapons programs and training should they consider arming teachers. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has come out against Schimel, saying he is forcing the NRA’s agenda on Wisconsin taxpayers.
