Schimel Supports Assembly Bills on Drug Abuse and Addiction

Wisconsin
Attorney General Brad Schimel applauds the State Assembly for passing nine
bills related to drug abuse and addiction. Schimel told KFIZ it expands on the
state legislature’s previous efforts known as HOPE legislation. He says 17 aggressive
bills were all passed unanimously in the legislature and they are hoping for
similar success depending on what happens in the Senate. He says they are well
though out, sensible bills that he supports. He says some of the legislation
would expand the Good Samaritan Law, which allows people reporting overdoses to
avoid prosecution if they have been using drugs themselves. He says odds are
that the person who sees the overdose may be using drugs that day too and that it
would also allow the person who overdoses to avoid prosecution.
