School Lunch Program Fills A Need

The Fond du Lac School Board this week approved a 10 cent increase in the cost of school lunch, which allows the District to also offer the free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says the free and reduced program helps out nearly 50 percent of families who qualify for it. He says the District is taking close to that amount of kids who are benefitting from free or reduced breakfast and lunch. He says in order to offer that they have to comply with federal guidelines including the cost they charge for the meals. Sebert says they even offer the lunch program during the summer at their summer school sites and the Boys and Girls Club. He says whether kids qualify for the free and reduced meal program they can go to those sites for a hot meal.
