SCOTUS Decision on Dassey Appeal Expected Soon

Some believe it could be less than a month before the US Supreme Court announces whether it will review an appeal filed by Brendan Dassey’s attorneys. Last week, they filed a brief responding to the state’s request that the court not grant the hearing. Dassey is serving a life sentence for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach in Manitowoc County. A federal magistrate overturned his conviction, arguing factors like his age and intellectual deficits led to an involuntary confession – but an appeals court later disagreed. Dassey’s attorneys maintain in their brief that “no forensic or other direct evidence linked Dassey to the crimes”.
