Scrabble Bee Results Released

For the second straight year, a fearsome foursome won top honors in the Fond du Lac Literacy Services annual Scrabble Bee, held November 5.

Dominating the Yellow Jacket Division and swarming opponents with 4,837 total points with a board that included the triple-word-scoring  “conservatorship” and “conjunctionally,”  the team of Christine Carew, Tom Flader, Carol Meister and Philip Shepherd, representing the Fond du Lac Yacht Club, spelled their way to a commanding win, repeating their feat from last year.

Following in second with 1,906 points was the Agnesian HealthCare team of Kate Moulton, Deb Vande Lande, Shannon Reifsnider and Mica Yurk.

In the Stingless Bees division, the Backyard Grill team of Sharon Driessen, Kim Braatz, Mary Martin and Shelley Flesch commanded with 3,890 points. They were followed by the Nielsen team of Courtney Jacobitz, Lisa Parks, Sue LaPlante and Marin LaPlante-Kleinke who put up a respectable 2,327 points.

Teams competed in the Fond du Lac Literacy Services’ third Scrabble Bee fundraiser, held at Moraine Park Technical College. A total of 13 teams competed in two divisions, vying for bragging rights and prizes while serving a good cause.

With the generous support of corporate teams and sponsors, more than $1,500 was raised. Major sponsors included Thrivent Financial, Moraine Park Technical College, Eden Stone, J.F. Ahern, Alliant Energy, Society Insurance and Service League of Fond du Lac. Additional contributions by C.W. Smith Jewelers; TTI, Inc.; Horicon Bank; National Exchange Bank & Trust; Drexel Building Supply; Thomas Kraus, DDS; and Gallery & Frame Shop made the Scrabble Bee a success.

Event volunteer VIPs included emcee Rick Moulton and Marian University students and family and friends of the Literacy Board, who worked as word waiters and scorekeepers.
