Seven Taken To Hospital After Beaver Dam Apartment Building Fire

Authorities
in Beaver Dam say 16 people were injured early Tuesday morning in a fire at the
Lakecrest Apartments. Fire Chief Alan Mannel says they responded to the two-story,
24-unit complex shortly after midnight.
When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy smoke coming from the
second floor and made several ladder rescues. Chief Mannel says 15 people were
treated in a triage area and seven were transported to Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
In addition, one firefighter was bitten by a dog he was rescuing. The fire was
contained to a second floor apartment, but there was considerable smoke damage
throughout the building. The Red Cross is assisting the 24 families that were
displaced by the blaze.
