Sheriff’s Candidates Debate

Experience, trust and law enforcement styles were some of the things that were brought up during a debate between the two Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s candidates Thursday night. Sheriff Mick Fink says he’s not really a public speaker. Fink said to Fond du Lac Police Detective Bill Ledger that Ledger looked at running for Sheriff with an urban law enforcement perspective when it’s really more complex than that. Ledger brought up the heroin problem and trust issues that some past and present employees of the Sheriff’s Department talked to him about. Sheriff Fink said Ledger speaking about a morale problem in the Sheriff’s Department was “a little short of reckless.” The two face each other in the August 12th primary election. The winner has no opposition in November. Pictured below Sheriff Mick Fink.

How Much Experience Is Needed To Lead Sheriff’s Department?

Both candidates for Fond du Lac County Sheriff have different approaches as to how they would lead the department over the next four years. That was apparent Thursday evening when incumbent Sheriff Mick Fink and Fond du Lac Police Detective Bill Ledger squared off in a debate at the Fond du Lac City-County Government Center. Backers of both candidates packed the legislative chambers. Ledger says he has 20 years of law enforcement experience and Sheriff Fink has 34 years, but the Sheriff can’t talk about his lack of leadership experience when he backed a district attorney’s candidate two years ago with no experience. Sheriff Fink says Ledger held his own the debate, but the two of them have different views on how the department should be run. Fink says being Sheriff is all about leadership. The two face each other in the August 12th primary election. The winner has no opposition in the November election. Pictured below Fond du Lac Police Detective Bill Ledger.
