Shop With A Cop Tonight

About 150 children will be shopping with a cop at the Wal-Mart in Fond du Lac tonight.  Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies Julie Flaherty and Dave Tackett coordinate the program. Both are school resource deputies. It takes almost a whole year to get ready for the program. Tackett says they have no problem getting volunteers for the program. High School students help the children wrap their presents after they purchase them. Each child is given $50 to spend on presents for their families. They also get their picture taken with Santa and enjoy a meal with a law enforcement officer. Each child also receives a free gift and those who need them are supplied with winter coats, hats and mittens. About 114 officers from the different branches of law enforcement, judges and people from the District Attorney’s Office participate in the program. Contributions from the public make the program possible.
