Shuttered Green Lake County Foundry Violated Clean Air Act

The owner of a shuttered foundry in Berlin will pay a $200,000 fine for exposing workers to asbestos. Last Thursday in federal court the owner of Grede Foundry pled guilty to violating the Clean Air Act. As part of a plea agreement Grede will provide 11 workers who removed asbestos-containing insulation from an inactive industrial oven in 2012 $340,000 for future medical expenses connected with monitoring for lung cancer. The foundry closed in the summer of 2015.
