Skydiver Drowns In Lake Butte des Morts

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Dive Team recovered the body of missing skydiver in Lake Butte des Morts yesterday afternoon shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sheriff’s officials say the call originally came in as a rescue for an overturned kayak, but it was quickly determined it was skydivers in the water. Two skydivers were doing a tandem jump when a storm came up and blew them off course away from the landing site and over the water. The customer was able to swim back to shore safely, but the professional instructor wasn’t located until the dive team recovered the body. The sky diving company is based in Omro.

That storm had been on the radar since early morning. Why an experienced jumpmaster would choose to take a student up in impending bad weather was a poor choice.

Condolences to the families but this tragedy could have been avoided.

You don't know all the circumstances and offering your condolances to my family does not make your insensitive post any better. Learn some manners.

Sorry to hear this. I have jumped with Paul a few times. They were all great jumps. My thoughts go out to his family.
