Small Oil Sheen Dissipating

There isn’t much left of an oil sheen spotted near Lakeside Park earlier this week. City officials are working to clear up what is left after much of the sheen dissipated after recent storms.

Assistant Chief of Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Erick Gerritson says the problem looked a lot worse than it actually was, because “if you ever see oil on water, a very little amount of oil can make it look like a lot of oil. It’s the same with petroleum or gas or anything like that. So a small amount really spreads out on the surface of the water”.

Gerritson says they have been running tests and checking water systems after opening up manholes, but have been unable to pinpoint a source of the oil.
