SMSA Second Century Campaign Making Progress

Progress continues in St. Mary’s Springs Academy’s Second Century Campaign as the groundbreaking for a new building on the ledge is on the horizon. SMSA Director of Advancement Kelly Norton says they hope to have a groundbreaking ceremony in April. She says the initial fundraising goal has been adjusted to $25 million because of the growth pattern for enrollment, which was up 7 percent this year and is expected to increase next year as well. She says they have $21.5 million collected in cash and pledges. She says the first phase of construction will cost about $18 million and will be from the current high school south toward Highway 23. She says it will have their child care and pre-K through 5th grade classrooms. The second phase will be the remodeling of the high school, which will have grades 6 through 12 in it. It was built in the 1970s. She says they will also refine the strategy for technology so it’s consistent in grades K through 12.
