Source of Threat to FDL HS Identified

05-Mar-2018

Update:

The 16-year-old Arkansas boy who posted a threat about a possible shooting at the Fond du Lac High School on Snapchat has ties to Fond du Lac. Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says in talking with various people and going through online profiles investigators learned the youth had lived in Fond du Lac at one time. He says, “Investigators were able to connect that 16-year-old from Arkansas was responsible for sending out the original Snapchat. They were also able to determine that this 16-year-old had previous ties to the Fond du Lac area.” The Snapchat post read, “Attention Fondy Highschool students I’ve been informed that there is going to be a school shooting tomorrow (3/5/18) I don’t know if this is true but I wouldn’t trust it don’t go to school tomorrow.” Fond du Lac Police worked with law enforcement officials from Arkansas who interviewed the suspect. He did admit he authored the post. Klein says the investigation is continuing. He says, “Even though we have identified this individual we continue to do some follow up on that and we will be working closely with the Fond du Lac County DA’s office and also authorities in Arkansas.” Klein says the threat caused a major disruption at the high school with about three-quarters of students deciding not to attend school Monday. Criminal charges are being considered against the teen.

---

A teenager from Arkansas with previous ties to the Fond du Lac area has been identified as the source of a post on social media that warned of a possible school shooting at Fond du Lac High School today (Monday). Fond du Lac Police identified a 16-year-old male as the person who sent out the post on the social media platform Snapchat. The post read “Attention Fondy Highschool [SIC] students I’ve been informed that there is going to be a school shooting tomorrow (3/5/18) I don’t know if this is true but I wouldn’t trust it don’t go to school tomorrow!” Fond du Lac Police were in communication with law enforcement officials in Arkansas who interviewed the suspect. The teen was cooperative and admitted he was the one who sent out the post. Investigators are working with the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office and authorities in Arkansas on possible criminal charges related to the incident.

Fond du Lac Police are thanking students who received the threatening message for showing their parents who in turn contacted law enforcement to investigate the incident. There will continue to be an increased police presence at the High School Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.
