Fond du Lac police were able to end a nearly 4 hour standoff incident on the south side of the city by taking one man into custody without incident.  Assistant Police Chief Steve Thiry says that police negotiators were able to talk the man out of a residence in The Elms Trailer Park at 871 Pioneer Road just after 2pm.  The incident started just after 9am when a fire at 65 North Hickory Street was called into authorities.  A suspect in the fire was identified and located at the Elms where shots were fired and the standoff began.  Local businesses, schools, and residences were put in lockdown and asked to “shelter in place.”  Authorities will still have the scene blocked off while the investigation continues.

Fond du Lac police and other area law enforcement are on the scene of an incident on the south side of the city.  There was a fire reported at 65 N. Hickory Street this morning that appears to be intentionally set. The call of the fire came in around 9:02am. A person of interest was then located at the Elms Trailer Park at 871 South Main Street. Area SWAT teams were called in before 10am this morning when the suspect was found at the Elms firing shots. The first reported shots occurred around 9:51am as confirmed by Assistant Police Chief Steve Thiry. You are asked to stay away from the area and if you live in the area stay inside and do not go outside and go into an interior room or a basement. A "Shelter in Place" has been in effect since just after 10am and multiple businesses, schools, and homes are on lockdown. There are no injuries to report at this time.  Law enforcement has set up their command center at the Fond du Lac Fire Department on South Main Street. The Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department, North Fond du Lac Police Department, and Winnebago County Sheriff's Department are all assisting the Fond du Lac Police Department in this matter.
