State Attorney General Seeking Commitment Of Gerald Turner

State Attorney General Brad Schimel has filed a petition to commit Gerald Turner under the state’s violent sex offender law. The 68-year-old Turner was convicted in Fond du Lac County Court in February of 1975 of killing nine-year-old Lisa Marie French of Fond du Lac. French was killed while trick-or-treating on Halloween in 1973. Turner was sentenced to 38 years in prison, but only served 23 years. He was released from prison in 1998, but his parole was revoked in 2003 and he was sent back to prison. Turner is supposed to be released from prison next Thursday. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail until a probable cause hearing can be held. It was French’s murder that led to the creation of the KFIZ Halloween Party, which promotes safe trick or treating.
